Matthew Brayton, DNP

Matthew “Matt” Brayton, DNP, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, is pleased to join the staff of Upper Cumberland Cancer Care as nurse practitioner. In his new capacity,
Brayton will collaborate with Dr. Mark Hendrixson in the care of patients who seek care at UCCC for their hematologic and oncologic needs.
Brayton has worked 30 years as an Advanced Practice Nurse in clinical, administrative, research and academic roles.
He has worked the past 15 years for TeamHealth, serving patients in more than a dozen Emergency departments throughout East
Tennessee, including UT Medical Center, Parkwest Medical Center, Methodist Medical Center, Roane Medical Center and Cumberland
Medical Center. He continues to work as a part-time clinical instructor at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, where teaches
applied clinical research and clinical ethics and the law.
He wasalong-time member of the Tennessee-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team. Under the auspices of the National Disaster Medical
System and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Brayton participated in numerous deployments, including Hurricane
Katrina in 2005, Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Brayton is an Eagle Scout. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was
a member of the UT Pride of the Southland Marching Band and UT Singers. He earned his masters of nursing at
Vanderbilt University and his doctorate of nursing practice at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in
Memphis. Matt is a native Vermonter who is married to Jana Holt Brayton, a senior vice president with OneBank.
They live in Jana’s hometown of Oak Ridge, Tenn. They have six adult children, all of whom have earned bachelor
degrees and are currently employed. Matt and Jana are members of the Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club. They enjoy
travel, music, entertaining and rooting for the University of Tennessee Volunteers in all sports.
